Mozilla Africa Mradi has teamed up with the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) to provide support to tech startups in Nairobi County. The collaboration is part of Mozilla's new grant-making mechanism called the Mozilla African Innovation Mradi, which aims to promote innovation tailored to the unique needs of users on the African continent.

The partnership will support the upcoming Mozilla Africa Mradi Innovation Challenge, which will take place in June 2023 in Nairobi. The challenge aims to identify and support Kenyan tech entrepreneurs and startups through an acceleration program that offers technical assistance, access to grants, and market access for their products.

As a regional ICT hub of East Africa, Kenya boasts over 300 tech startups and is a leader in broadband connectivity and general ICT infrastructure. Through the Innovation Challenge, Mozilla aims to support the ecosystem of youth innovators across Kenya by providing the information and knowledge needed to establish and run profitable startups.

The Mozilla Africa Mradi Innovation Week will take place on June 26th and 27th, 2023, in Nairobi. The event is part of the Africa Mradi, which seeks to leverage Mozilla's role as stewards of the open web to promote models of innovation tailored to the unique needs of African users.

"Nairobi City County Government will be working with Mozilla Africa Mradi in two key areas; in conducting a situation analysis of all our tech startups and to build the capacity of tech innovators in Nairobi City County so as to ensure they have equal opportunities and platforms to showcase their innovations, are exposed to how venture capital investments work, and trained on startup accelerator opportunities available to them in Africa," Governor Johnson Sakaja said.

Transnzoia ICT Hub, located in Transnzoia County, Kenya, is an excellent example of a tech hub that could benefit from the Mozilla Africa Mradi Innovation Challenge. By supporting tech startups and entrepreneurs through programs such as these, Kenya's position as a leader in the African tech ecosystem will continue to grow.
